Mindset Makeover

This month I’ve been talking about next-level steps I suggest to my clients to boost their health and wellness results …

and today’s email might just be about the most important step.

It affects almost every action they take and every decision they make.

It’s mindset … and it could be playing tricks on you!

Here’s why mindset is worth paying attention to:

People can develop beliefs, habits, and feelings that helped them survive a situation in the past … but later in life, those same beliefs, habits, and feelings can work AGAINST them without their even realizing it!  Their life context has changed, but they are still using old tools.

I’m going to focus on fitness & wellness in the following examples, but this applies to every area of life, from finances to relationships.

Example 1:  When you were growing up, perhaps food was used as a reward or way to soothe feelings when you had a bad day.  So now, if something great and/or stressful happens, you believe you “deserve” pizza and ice cream even though they aren’t helping you reach your goals (not to mention the stomachache after you eat them).

Example 2:  You spent years competing as an athlete and now believe that you didn’t do a “real” workout unless you give it 110%, even if it leaves you feeling exhausted, starving, and overly sore (and maybe even aggravates an old injury).

Example 3:  This comes up for me every time I'm playing a tennis match in "extreme" weather ... temps that are either very cold or very hot.  Yes, everyone on the court is uncomfortable.  Here in Georgia, we get a wide swing of temperatures and humidity which often makes outdoor sports a true mental and physical challenge.  The urge to have a moan about it is overwhelming, right?  However, when I and my doubles partner adopt the mindset that extreme temperatures are a COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE, we secretly know that when our opponents are complaining about the weather, then they are already in the process of beating themselves before we even play the first point.  How's that for middle-aged woman bad-assery??

You get the picture!

We all struggle with these things at some point or another.

The good news is that I work with my clients to CHANGE their mindset around these old beliefs.

Here are 3 steps to overturning those limiting beliefs.

  1. It starts with PAYING ATTENTION and recognizing them when they crop up.

This can be surprisingly challenging because they can feel like non-refutable facts or actions, to the point where a person doesn’t even question them.

This is why it’s so important to:

  1. Question all beliefs and habits.  Try to understand them – while they might have served you in the past, are they doing you any favors now?

Ask yourself, “Why do I think or do this?”  "What benefit am I getting by holding on to this belief or habit?"

  1. Step out of your comfort zone (with baby steps).  Over time, with my accountability and support, my clients replace their old beliefs with positive beliefs and habits that support their goals and current lifestyle.

If you need help getting rid of old, limiting beliefs that have been getting in your way, let's start the conversation with a FREE Discovery Session.

At Momentum Transformations, I help my clients reach and exceed their goals with strategic lifestyle protocols in the areas of:

  • Food,

that gets them a body that's FUN to live in again in the most comfortable way possible.

You’ve got this!

Make it an amazing day,
